I’m afraid that we don’t provide direct support on-site for DevKinsta. Given that it’s a free product, we don’t provide chat support and our support team does not provide assistance over video/meet, exclusively here in forum for DevKinsta.
Therefore, you would have to take suggested steps yourself
If the issue is still there, it’s possible some steps weren’t done properly, but that’s fine, I also had to re-do it a few times until I did it properly.
The instructions I sent you have two parts so please go through the entire article and do all steps in PART ONE and PART two. (link here)
@VladimirM@Adrian_L I recently purchased a hosting subscription for my website. Previously, I had the website hosted on another shared hosting provider, and it is currently working perfectly there.
I now need to migrate the existing website to Kinsta. However, I understand that the backup import/export plugins are restricted on your platform. Your support team recommended setting up DevKinsta locally, importing the website into DevKinsta, and then pushing the local website to the live Kinsta environment.
I have tried to set up DevKinsta on my local computer, but unfortunately, I am unable to get it working properly.
Could you please assist me with setting up DevKinsta and migrating/importing my existing website to Kinsta? If there is another recommended method for migrating the website without using the restricted backup plugins, I would also appreciate your guidance.
I have already purchased the subscription, so I would prefer to continue using Kinsta if you can help me resolve this migration issue.
Otherwise, if there is no practical way to migrate my existing website to Kinsta, please let me know so I can consider cancelling the subscription and moving to another hosting provider.
I would really appreciate your assistance in helping me get the website migrated successfully.
In regards to DevKinsta, as stated before, I’m afraid that, it being a free product, we can only help here with providing steps as I did before.
If you want to migrate your site to Kinsta from the previous provider, if you still have an active subscription, you can submit a migration request and our Migration team will migrate it for free directly from the previous hosting provider.
Not all import/export plugins are banned. You can migrate with Duplicator (free version) or Migrate Guru.
Alternatively, you can extract files and database and upload them to cloud service/drive and choose request a migration from Backup and provide the file to our Migration team.
If you are unable to make DevKinsta work with the steps I provided, I suggest using one of the methods I described above for Migration.
Is this issue ever going to be resolved, considering it has been an issue raised in 2025?
As a company, we have decided to use Kinsta as our WordPress platform, however the accompanying development tools fail to work from a fresh install.
This is making us reconsider using this platform going forward, even more so seeing that this issue is unresolved since November 2025.
Sure, I can jump through hoops to get it working by manually fixing the root account but why should we?
Can we get an official fix for this issue, which appears relatively simple to fix and even include a fail-safe to correct, or should I be searching for another provider before I start porting over the remainder of my sites?
DevKinsta is a free product that has been in maintenance & security mode for some time and will remain so for the time being. I have no ETA in regards to when this is going to change.
If you were referring to database root access issue, it hasn’t been isolated to be specifically a DevKinsta issue, but, in general, bug reports and feature requests are backlogged for now, so I can’t promise you any ETA in regards to when we will have an update.
I regret to hear that this is making you consider going with another provider. I can only say that I hope that even if you’re not satisfied with DevKinsta, you are satisfied with Mykinsta and our hosting services in general.
